Catalogue by Authors / Composers |
English song c. 1800-1850Romantic songs and ballads by Sir Henry Bishop, Balfe, Mrs. Robert Arkwright, Wade, Barnett, etc. These are 25 songs in English for voice and piano from the period c. 1800-1850. Some of them are very well known, such as "Home, sweet home" by Sir Henry Bishop or "Cherry ripe" by C.E. Horn, while others are less well known and not available in any other modern edition. All are enormously singable. The editions here are with piano accompaniments, but the anthology from this same repertory but with guitar accompaniments, which I published with Tecla in 1983, was immediately recorded by the now famous Ann Murray and received rapturous reviews. Singers will find here a repertory which audiences love. All of them are reproduced from rare original early nineteenth century copies which are in my own collection. All of them are complete and unaltered facsimiles, including the original title-pages which are often entertaining and informative, and including in some cases publishers' catalogues which are in the original copies. Nothing has been retouched. You can see them here in Hebe as electronic files. Or you can obtain a printed anthology of them entitled Sing me the songs I love! which is published by Tecla and contains 20 of the songs. The following songs are available in Hebe: Mrs. Robert
Arkwright- Then be it so. (Ballad.) FREE ONLINE All Hebe files are free immediately online if you are a Hebe subscriber. Non-subscribers can obtain these files immediately online by clicking on this link. *************** Guitarists will be interested in a printed anthology of 17 songs from this same repertory, but with original guitar accompaniments from the period, entitled English Romantic Songs and Ballads, which is published by Tecla. |
