Francesco MolinoThree Trios for flute, viola and guitar, op. 4 The mp3 files You can hear the first trio, op. 4 no. 1, in mp3 tracks here on Hebe which are of a live performance given in Portugal by Olavo Tengner Barros (flute), Jean-Loup Lecomte (viola d'amore), and Mário Carreira (guitar). Allegro moderato (mp3
track) Be aware that it is a live performance, that the recording was not made by a professional engineer, and that it hasn't been professionally edited. But the playing is very nice, and it will give you an idea of these fine trios. The same recording, together with Beethoven's Serenata op. 8 arranged by Matiegka, is also available as CD, for purchase from Tecla (go to the Tecla site and follow the links to Molino). Here are the performers: (click to enlarge) If you are not a Hebe subscriber, you can still purchase these mp3 files inexpensively online here. Mário Carreira writes: This recording of Francesco Molino's trio op. 4 no. 1 was made at a live concert in a late seventeenth century chapel (now a museum) in Obidos, a beautiful Portuguese medieval city where traditionally concerts are held, especially in early music. The event was a commemorative concert for the Portuguese composer José Joaquim dos Santos (1747-1801), who was born in Obidos and wrote a Stabat Mater (1782/83) which was recently reprinted in a modern edition and recorded. The catalogue of all his works is in preparation. This live concert, entitled "Music of the time of José Joaquim dos Santos (1747-1801)", took place on May 10th 2003. About the performers: We are all teachers at the Conservatório de Música do Porto, the second major musical institution of the country. Olavo Barros studied modern flute at the Conservatório de Música do Porto and the traverso (also called the German flute or the one keyed flute) in Holland with Marten Root, J.Caryevschi, David Reischenberg, Phillipe Suzanne and Wilbert Hazelzet. He plays in different groups, including several jazz formations and early music ensembles. He also teaches at the Escola Superior de Música in Lisbon. He plays here on a one-keyed flute-copy by Claire Souberayn after F.G. Kirst, 1760. Jean Loup Lecomte was born in Toulouse (France) and studied the viola in that city at the Conservatoire de Musique de Toulouse with Emil Cantor, Serge Collet and Stephen Kamasa. He plays the viola in Oporto's National Orchestra since 1997. Later he studied the viola d'amore privately in Toronto with Thomas Georgi. He plays here on an instrument made by Johann Uldaricus Eberle of 1739. Guitarist Mário Carreira is a performer and teacher from Portugal (b. Lisbon, 1962).His special areas of interest include chamber music and repertoire for voice and guitar. He studied at the National Conservatoire in Lisbon and at the University of Évora with Manuel Morais, a student of the late Emilio Pujol, and in Caen/France with Louis-Marie Feuillet at the Conservatoire National de Caen. He also studied with many early music specialists including: the late Macario Santiago Kastner, Hopkinson Smith and Anner Bylsma. He specialises in the romantic guitar, in which he has worked and been in contact with: the late Robert Spencer, Manuel Morais, Jakob Lindberg, Dr.Thomas Heck and Dr.Brian Jeffery. He is the founder of the D'Amore Ensemble. He plays here on a period instrument made by Henri Huel, Paris c.1820. The recording was made by Olavo Barros himself. ********* I am very grateful to Roland Stearns for his help in making these sound files available. Back to the main page for the Three Trios op. 4.
